What is it that’s going to attract people to your Pinterest boards? Something that’s interesting and unique enough to draw a bigger crowd to the content you have to offer! Taking it a step further: what is it that’s going to attract the search engines? It’s also important to thoroughly optimize your Pinterest profile for those who are searching the web.

PINTEREST PROFILE TIPS

  • Make sure your profile picture is clear and appealing. Your business should have a clean, eye-catching logo or an image that is clearly representative of your brand. After all, Pinterest is a visually oriented site!
  • Brand across all platforms by linking all other social media outlets to your profile page, including your website and blog. These links will increase traffic and help identify your page as your business.
  • Are you hiding from search engines? Under settings, make sure to change this ‘HIDE’ button from ‘ON’ to ‘OFF’ before going live.

PROFILE CONTENT

  • When reading the description of your profile, keep in mind that many people are just skimming the text – sum up your business description into as few words as possible – what your company is all about and what key features make it stand out.
  • Try to include posts that call attention to your website. Something that will draw the viewer in from Pinterest by clicking to your direct site to get more info.
  • Make sure to completely fill out all of the profile fields offered. By doing so, you are maximizing your engagement with viewers. Not to mention an incomplete profile can look a little odd to viewers.

KEYWORD OPTIMIZING

  • Begin choosing many keywords that have a high search volume and relevance to your business. Be natural in what you write, but slip these keywords in here and there for search engines to pick up on.
  • Search engines will index your profile by your placement of primary keywords as close to the beginning of your description as possible. Optimize!
  • The meta-description that will show up in search engine results: your ‘ABOUT’ section – keep it short and sweet but make sure those targeted keywords are in there!

Last but not least, do not wait for the masses to come to you – go out and get them. At the end of the day, Pinterest is a social media site. Meaning, your action or inaction will also affect the traffic to your profile. Build relationships or connections with others by interacting with their boards. This is just as valuable as all of the time you put into the optimization of your own page!
